Diabetes and Acupuncture
Acupuncture is
though to influence the hypothalamopitutaradrenothyrocotical axis. it's
effectiveness on these endocrine glands is reflected in terms of an
increase in the thickness of adrenal cortex, C size cells, of thyroid
increased blood levels of ACTH ,THS and increased urinary excretion of
17-ketosteroids which are observed after acupuncture needling. The
introduction of endorphins has further expanded the scope of acupuncture
therapy for endocrine disorders with Diabetes.
Traditional
concept of Diabetes
This is an
endemic disease and the cautive factors are * blood stasis and
accumulation of phlegm due to obstruction of Qi caused by exasperation,
anxiety or mental depression,**stagnation of Qi in neck due to invasion
of any of six exogenous pathogenic factors and environmental
inadaptability.
Method of
Treatment:
-To activate
blood and Qi circulation and remove stasis and lumps by puncturing with
reducing methods at point of Li18 and added point of Sj, St. as main
points
Depression of Qi of liver: Ren17,Liv3 also needed.
-Explanation: Li 18 a point of the Large Intestine channel, has the
effect of dispersing the stagnant Qi and phlegm in the Neck because Li
dominates the Qi of the whole body.
-Li18 are located at neck, puncturing this point promotes the
circulation of Qi and blood in the local area so as to disperse te
stagnant Qi and blood and also to motivate or stimulate the thyroid
gland for increasing metabolism.
