Shamanic cultures between spirituality and nature The author highlightens the relationship between nature and spirituality of shamanic cultures and its importance to the shaman: their healer-priest. In their culture, nature is seen as a “ierofania”: a manifestation of the sacred and therefore to be loved, understood, contemplated and treated with utmost respect; it must be handed to future generations intact, it is not something to conquer, dominate or abuse. Nature is seen through the shaman’s eyes as a place of knowledge, a place of power and healing; and it is in the humble and silent contemplation of nature and its elements that the shaman understands himself and the world that surrounds him. He understands the forces that hold the universe and his own mind; he knows his own body and his own soul. It is in those very natural places, sacred and rich in pure energy, that he encounters the Allies and Protective Spirits, where he gains the sacred knowledge and power to heal. |
