Michele Zanetti was born in Trieste in
1940; he is married and has two daughters.
In the past he
taught in the Faculty of Jurisprudence at the University of Trieste. He
lives in Ternova Piccola, near Aurisina. Mr. Zanetti is fluent in
French, and has a working knowledge of German, English, Spanish and
Portuguese. Mr. Zanetti has a degree in Law from the University of
Trieste after which he studied in Turin and at the Sorbonne in Paris. He
has published many works, also in French and German, on labour law, on
transportation, on the management of harbours, on psychiatric
assistance, on social service and on ethnic minorities. He also promoted
the foundation of a university course for the training of Labour union
managers.
He has been
active in politics since his university days when he was elected student
representative. Since 1966 Mr. Zanetti has worked for many public
agencies: among others as President of the Trieste Port Authority, as
President of the Province of Trieste, as a member of the Council of
Administration of the Institute of Health in Rome and manager for the
Public Health Agency in Trieste. In addition to his public commitments,
Mr. Zanetti was a founding member of the Council of Administration of
the Trieste Institute for the Study and Documentation of Eastern Europe
(ISDEE) for more than 15 years, President of the Ecclesiastical Movement
of Cultural Commitment of the Diocese of Trieste, President of the
Social Service Association "Franco Basaglia", Vice-President of the
Donau Europaeisches Institute of Vienna, and as President of the
Italo-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
