Claudia Martinez - Colombia

Claudia Martinez is Colombian, she studied Business Administration at Los Andes University in Bogotá and holds a Masters in Development Economics and a Masters in Environmental Studies from Yale University.

She coordinated the environmental programs at the Latin American Bureau of the United Nations Development Program in New York. Then moved on to CAF (Andean Development Bank) as Director of sustainable Development in charge of developing CAF´s strategic vision on sustainable Development as a corporate goal.

Subsequently she was Deputy Minister of Environment of Colombia for 4 years, in charge of Coordinating the National Environmental System composed of 33 Regional Environmental Corporations, 5 research Institutions and the National Park System.

She is currently Vice President for Social and Environmental Development at CAF, where she manages the Environmental Division, the Small and Medium Enterprise Division and the Social Development Division, that manages the loan portfolio of the Bank in education, health, water and sanitation, agriculture and rural development.

She is a member of the UNDP Millennium Project Task Force on Environmental Sustainability and the Yale University Environmental Leadership Council.

She has been a consultant for the Inter American Development Bank, the World Bank and CAF, and professor at Los Andes and La Javeriana Universities in Colombia.

She is coeditor of several publications including “Our own Agenda”, “Amazonia without Myths”, and “Down in the Andes”, by the Latin American and Caribbean Commission on Development and Environment.

She is married to an Italian environmental specialist and they have two great sons.
